Let’s get it going with the first transform your thinking post of the 09 baby!
It’s time to get started in this new year! Many people were waiting for a new year to have a new start but the truth is you get a new start every day!
What are you doing with it?
Do you have goals? Good….have you defined those goals?
I’m not talking about the vague goals and plans we all make throughout our lives either.
Nope!
I’m talking about getting down and dirty, specific, and very focused.
The truth is if you don’t have a clearly defined goal, and destination…somewhere you are actually traveling to, you’ll never get there! Oh I hear the sarcasm but roll with me.
If you don’t have any clearly defined goals, you’ll never move forward….you’ll just move!
What are you moving towards? What do you want to do? Specifically what are you planning to accomplish this year?
How about within the next six months? This quarter? You can have a defined big picture…then break it down into smaller bite-sized chunks.
3- 6 months, down to 1 month, down to this week, down to today…down to this very hour.
Plan your dream, your vision, then work backward until you get to the smallest point of action and take that action.
I found a great tool that will help you map out your goals. It’s free and it’s from Nigthingale-Connant.
Anybody that is into self development knows that name lol.
Go checkout their mission statement software. It will help you map out the big picture…it’s up to you to follow it backwards up to the present moment and take action.

Hey Joe
I like the new signs for the sponsors and the content in the video. It was pretty catchy.
I haven’t clearly defined my goals as of yet because I’m in the process of doing my own self-awareness. I probably could just include them in my asseessment of myself because that is one area I lack in on days.
I will do it by the end of this month no doubt about that.

Thanks dude! I figured I’d change em up a lil bit and have fun with them more. Get them goals man…at least a major goal for the year and you can fill in the details.

Yo! Thanks for the linkage and for the vote of confidence in the video. You right, making yourself accountable by declaring a specific goal and then also doing so publicly is a great motivator!
I’ve never done the planning and breakdowns to the extent I am now, and even though a lot of projects/ideas are in planning stages, I’m that much more confident in them now because they are more than just ideas. They are detailed plans I can literally see mapped out. It may sound like a simple thing, but this is huge for me.
Before, I would have vague lists and ideas scribbled because I also had this odd outlook on things that would stop me from the detailed planning. i always had this weird notion that I should be working on something else if I was spending too much time in lists, task programs, or mind-mapping as I do now. However, I’ve spent about two weeks straight on “planning”, and I’ve never felt better about it because I’m way more confident it will come to fruition now. Know what I’m sayin’ SWOPES?
Cheers buddy!
Jay

No doubt man…we’ve been talking about this stuff for the past few months, and we’re right there together. I know you’ll do it man and I’m going to make sure you stay focused.
You know how I feel about the planning, mapping and all that man…it makes things much easier and you’re right…you feel more confident, more productive, and more ready.
I love it man and I’ve never personally started any year with a business plan. It feels great man…to actually have a vision of where you’re going instead of just “going with it”.
Keep it up dude…I’m watching you and thanks for being a great friend and inspiration.

It’s funny you wrote this, cause I was just talking to Veronica tonight about how I am in dire need of some “mapping” to help manifest my various goals for oh-nine… I mentioned that you’re all over this shit like midgets on phone books, and stopped by your hood to see what’s popping and it’s right here baby!

True. Don’t know though if I’d feel comfortable making my goals public.
But 2009 is indeed time to start working toward actual results.

You are definitely right. The strategy you define before you start doing something has a lot to do with success/failure. More, it is important to define your goals realistic – it’s important to not dream but have quality information about the situation and know exactly what you want to reach.

Hey Redner, welcome to the site! Having a plan before you start is critical. What’s also critical is having the proper mindset. If you go back and read a couple of my other “transform your thinking” posts, you’ll see what I mean. I think the problem is too many people don’t dream. What does “being realistic” really mean? It’s actually the mindset limitations we have learned to place on ourselves, it stops us from reaching for and going towards what we really want. We then settle for what we think we can get, and remain unfulfilled.
What if Bill Gates didn’t dream? The Wright Brothers didn’t dream of their airplane? What if no one dreamed of electricity? Trains, brain surgery, heart transplants? Anything great starts with a dream, and anything worth having starts with a dream. Reality is what you make it, period. You can do nothing without first thinking about it…By the time we reach adulthood, most of us have let go of dreaming, and we work more on what we see as “reality”.
We don’t dare to challenge it, because it’s not comfortable, and we lack the confidence to chase that dream. I say dream…that’s the only way you’ll get what you really want, instead of just taking what you can get.
Hope to see ya around man!

Man.. i wish i had the gonads to step out and quit working for corporate America and do my own thang! You guys are so inspiring and every time i read posts on my favorite blogs, it makes me want to just take a leap of faith and start my home business and work for me!
With a 40 hour a week job, it’s hard to do all the reading and planning and working on internet marketing.. at least hard to do as much as i need/want to. But hey… this all started to make a few extra bucks to help buy a diamond ring so i could ask the woman of my dreams to marry me! Not only did that happen, it’s grown to more than i could have ever imagined! So, if i don’t ever step out and do my own thing full time with this.. i sure do love reading all of your alls inspiring posts! It reminds me every day that i CAN do whatever i set my mind to! I just have to do it!
Oh.. E to tha lijah said

Dude, I still work a full time job, I haven’t left my employment yet. I know it’s hard, but even cutting out a little bit of time for this stuff will pay off. I usually do it early in the morning, before work and before the kids get up. Sometimes I work late at night….you just gotta make good use of what you have instead of constantly thinking about what you lack. Go get it man!

Hm… Maybe a pickle and grilled cheese sammich. And I’ve got bacon bits. Oooh.
I forgive you now.

That’s what I am talking about, Sammich Man!
2009 is all about being specific. So specific that I am not even sharing my larger goals with my Blog Family because if you don’t get it done in January, then Feb., March, April, May, everything is through off from your plan. You got to get out the gate early, ahead of your goals. No fun playing from behind the eight ball.
And slow down with the Nightingale-Conant, Son! That is some powerful stuff. You are liable to have someone change their life talking like that and showing that material/resource/unbelievable/tremendous resource to people.
Thanks for reminding me!
I’m With Joe!

Yo Joe!
All I have for planning is a ton of scrap pieces of paper in my office that are filled with ideas. I have a real bitch of a time putting those ideas into action.
I have a ton of ideas but no goals. I think it is time to revamp, go back to square one and refocus and actually plan for goals in 09. Seriously right now I am blogging like a chicken with its head cut off. I just run around in little circles. I’m getting dizzy.
