Don’t Be Stupid Like Me!

yo , if you’re trying to run a blog or trying to build you business based on your personality…

if you want long term follows and people that trust you, like you, know you, and wanna be down with you

if you want people that won’t think twice about what products you promote or create

you gotta show love!

I made a stupid mistake a while ago, when I changed my theme

I took off top commentator…

not cuz i didn’t like ya, but it didn’t “fit” in the sidebar like I wanted

guess what…I said funk it!

put it back up

so who’s gonna take the crown?

it’s important to make your readers, or if you’re not on a blog, your clients, or whoever you are bringing

“into your world” feel like a part of what you do.

that’s important in attracting people to your business….

personality is key…just show yours

what ya think?

yeah…comment love is broke…I need to fix dat!

Damn it! I was just about to open my blog back up, but now I feel stupid cause I didn’t have “top commentators” set up. Baaaaaack to the drawing board…all because of you, Joseph!

I don’t really wanna smell fish sauce in the morning when I’m drinking coffee bro, but thanks anyway. I think I actually backed up when you stuck your stinky finger out like that!

    Latah!

This is a great advice and something I always try to tell my colleagues. You need to have a close connection with your readers. In this case I’m not sure if Top Commentators actually do matter that much, but it’s important to share your thoughts and connect with your visitors.

Whatsup Stefan! Thanks for stopping by. Oh yeah, trust me, top commentator helps a lot, people like to see their names up there. And the more you generate a community and personality, the more people want to be a part of what you’re doing.

relationship is key, as you already stated.

look forward to seeing you around.

That’s what’s up, Joe. Good to be back in the ville, Son! I don’t have the top commentator on my blog, but it is in varying levels of disarray. Getting it back together.

    Keep the goodness coming

    I’M WITH JOE!!!

Hey, thanks for the cocktail sauce.
The Top Commenters plugin sounds like a good idea. We just started using AJAX CommentLuv on our blog. When our readers post a comment, the plugin adds the title of their last blog post and a link to it. So, they can get a lil traffic to their own blog, and recognition in return for commenting.

Damn…I need some shrimp now, Joe. What am I s’posed to do with this cocktail sauce?!

Yeah Tammy! I used to have comment luv enabled as well, but it started acting funny on me after the recent update. I plan to bring it back once I see it’s working properly though.

    Gotta luv that shrimp sauce!

Hey JK great advice! Do you know of any other plugins besides that one – or a similar plugin? I have installed the Top Commentators plugin on numerous themes and it has never worked.

wp comment remix does something similar, there are a few. I think there is code you can just add to your sidebar to call it up as well.

Oohh … you know I think, maybe, once upon a time I might have had that widget!! What happened to it, I don’t know 0:) I must have forgotten about it when I did a revamp or something …

It’s a very good point Joe! I am going to put it back in … and start using it more on my other blogs.

Oh, and NOW I can start leaving comments on Joeville again (just kidding).

@Holly, there is another plugin which adds this widget as one of it’s features – it is the “NoFollow Free” plugin

I actually don’t use the top commentators plugin purely for spammers taking advantage of it, it has a loop hole, but I’m sure you know about that.

I reward my top commentators by listing some of their great posts to my readers in a roundup post. Give a bit of love back.

Whatsup George! yeah, I’ve done that before too…

I’ve never had a problem with spammers on my site, I use askimet, it does fine, I can also set comments to go into moderation for first time commenters, or folks with less that 2 approved comments
so it’s never been an issue.

Readers love seeing their name up there, also showing love to their posts is great. I also like to welcome new readers every once in a while in my videos, haven’t done it yet this week.

It’s all good though, everyone has their ways, the point is, make sure you show them love.

I’ve found things like top commentator and comment luv get readers more involved than a periodic link love post.

Simple because a link love post isn’t guaranteed, with the other options, if they participate they are guaranteed to get some love back.
