Secret Marketing Strategy

Let’s get into the marketing secret for today.

18. The “Once In Awhile” Strategy

The “every once in a while something comes along that changes the face of everything you have come to know up until this point…” strategy tells your reader that your product is going to change the way they are currently used to doing things. People will buy your product if it makes things easier, less expensive, faster, lighter, effortless, etc.

Joe Says:

Yeah, this is true….but DON’T OVERDO IT!!! Everything you produce is not going to save the world, end world hunger, stop the rising gas prices, make you the envy of all peers….you get my point. Sometimes the “this will change it all” is okay, and sometimes it’s just plain corny!

That’s it for today….share your thoughts!

I agree man, it’s all about being real to me without being sensational all the time. For me that’s one of the turn off’s on the internet.

Like in reall life if you want to buy a loaf of bread you don’t go and look for the latest and most sensational loaf of bread out there, you just go and buy a loaf of bread right? Well the intenet is just like real life. There are things that are just the basics of internet life and without those you won’t survive but it doesn’t have to be the latest and greatest all the time.

I like your blog and I like your angle. I am not a comment geek, I don’t look for the next blog I can comment on. In fact you can check mybloglog records, I have done few posts. And I don’t want to be a post geek. I just want to enjoy what I am doing without that type of pressure.

Geez I am rambling on here….

    Great work anyway!

Welcome Greg, glad you took the time to comment! Yeah, sometimes I see marketers say each product they release will “change the face of the internet as you know it!”

Now, I have seen some pretty cool things, but not everything is one of those things. If it’s not truly innovative, and just builds on current common knowledge, it’s safe to say it’s not going to “change the world”.

I don’t know man….I just like to keep it real, I know marketing sells and these marketers know what their doing, their copywritting gets people to buy, I am just hoping to bring a little balance and maybe change a few things with how I operate.

    Don’t be a stranger… :)

I’m of two minds on this, while I generally dislike the marketing hype and the 50 page salesletter “buy this now and make millions tomorrow” It apparently is a good sales tactic.
Consider this scary stat. I cant remeber where I saw it, but the average who buys a book from the book store never gets past page 18 !!! WTF. Aaron abber also confirmed a suspicion I had about digital products. He stated that most people ( i dont remember if he gave a %) never read or use it, be it a book or software, dvd set, video.etc etc….
SO what does that say ?
    HYPE SELLS
    Just like sex sells
Look at most commercial advertising, very seldom do they present the image of the average looking joe. NOPE they show you beautiful people.
Theyre selling the perfect image of you. They want you to buy the perfect image of who you CAN be. Could be, want to be, need to be.
    IS that a bad thing?
Its not just as cut and dry as I am hungry and therefore need to go to the grocery and buy more food or I will die of hunger, though there is an implied urgent desire in that.
People very seldom buy what they want. They buy what they need.
Its not (or in my honest opinion) I want to be rich. Its I NEED TO BE RICH. Theres a freeking need a burning desire to change their lives in a very drastic way.
I HATE MY FRIGGIN LIFE and MY BOSS IS AN A$$ HOLE I NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT NOW.
Oh look joe has an e-book for 97$ that will solve that problem RIGHT NOW, I’m in !!!!
So if you’re on the level and have something that will honestly solve that BURNING DESIRE, then the hype business model does work. Boy I can see the cringe on everyones face right now.
    But face it IS TRUE.
COmon be real now, I bought A pair of 135$ oakley sunglasses, because I need to shade my eyes from the sun? HELL NO, I could bought anycheap ass pair of dollar store glasses I I was just that pragmatic. NO I wanted to LOOK COOL and so bought the Oakley lifestyle !!!
    The internet is NO DIFFERENT.
We can have our lofty morals and live in that ivory tower where everyone gets what they need to survive and no-one ever goes with out, or we can make money selling people the image of what they want to be. Get hip or stay poor.
Heres a loaf of bread… you’re out of bread. it will keep you from going hungry for a week

Indeed big Shane! I know how much copy is worth, I’ve been getting into it more myself. It’s just that there is a difference between good copy and outright lying!

We need copy, it’s worked for years and will continue to work, what we don’t need is lies. I know many marketers with great copy who don’t lie!

It’s all about the copy (sales copy) and that’s true, copywritting is a skill to practice…I just refuse to practice it to learn how to lie, that’s not needed but it’s the common belief among marketers.

I refuse to outright lie, will I use copy to sell? YEP, will I use psychological triggers known to get people to buy? Probably….but, I will be careful how I do it, so as not to promote crap with a gold wrapper.

I know this puts me in the minority…but, that’s fine with me! I’ve seen both sides, and both are successful, it comes down to what you yourself are comfortable with…

Very good insight Shaners….thanks for the input!

lemme get some of that bread!
