Be Realistic About Your Goals

transforming your thoughtsSum BEE!!! I had issues with my video rendering this morning, and couldn’t really do anything during the day at work, so I’m getting this post out late. Not to worry,  you’ll have all weekend to ponder it! Now, let’s get into it.

Last week, we talked about transforming your thinking in order to help you reach success.  The topic last week was How Your Thoughts Affect Your Success and it seemed to go over well.  This is a part of my life/business I have been using in the background and it was workin like a sum bee so I was ready to share it.

But, not everyone thought it was that great, and a few had some different opinions, which I love! What was so dope about it, the very comments proved the point I was trying to make. One of our community members had a comment about staying realistic so that your goals aren’t too hard to reach.

I understood what he was tring to say, fortunately, this provided a real live example of how our thoughts, pardigms, and social conditioning have a huge impact on what we perceive as possibility.

Your Reality Is What You See

I know  some of you may not feel me….yet, but I know there are others that do. Your future, your reality, it’s what you make it! Just like the Wright Brothers and their plane, or any of the other various visions that folks had, you have to believe it.  Not only that, you have to put forth the actions so as to move towards that vision.

I’ve really been learning, using, and applying the concept of lifestyle design. Basically, this means, instead of letting your work or occupation determine your lifestyle, you plan or envision the lifestyle you want, then you work towards making sure your business or occupation lines up with that vision!

Stephen Pierce has been a huge impact on me, and through him I have been introduced to many other teachers and resources. One of my buddies Mark Mason introduced me to the folks over at Internet Business Mastery a few weeks back…and I was hooked.  They have a free audio that talks about this very thing, it’s called the 3 pillars to designing the ultimate internet lifestyle.

Internet Marketing Provides Freedom

The bottom line is, we are all here for one thing, FREEDOM. Sure, money may be a part of that, but the ultimate reason we want to do this stuff is for freedom. Freedom to do what we chose, freedom to live where we want, freedom to live our lives and spend time with out family. If you have the proper mindset, you know your goals and nothing will deter you.

If you don’t change your mind, you’ll continue to fall victim to the same conditioning. I don’t really care what the naysayers have to say on the matter, I have experienced and I am experiencing this very thing. I also have plenty of friends who understand and apply this knowledge and are experiencing it as well.

I know you got something to say, so spit that junk out and let me know what’s on your mind. I’ll admit, I used to be one of those that thought this was just “fluffy sammich bread” but the more I apply, and the more I learn, the more I see how real it is.

That’s why there aren’t 100 Disney world and people keep whining about the fact they are unhappy with what they do and should have started Disney World themselves. That’s also why there aren’t 100 Google and so on. Some will stand out because they believe in something really hard, no matter what other people say.

Oh you hit that on the head Ben! It’s so true, thing is, staying positive is really different in this society, because there is so much conditioning, but you better believe the successful understand and apply this. If you know there’s no other option for you…you’ll be in perpetual motion towards your goals and will pick up other smaller goals and prizes along the way to your destination, which will be constantly evolving.

Joe, you might get into my great quote library with that, son.

Seriously, I think this line of thinking is on point. What you must come to grips with if you are going to be successful in this business or any business is the FACT that the majority of people are negative and will not accomplish much in this life.

I know it doesn’t sound like, but this is not a knock on them. It just is what it is. What you have to do is be ready, willing, and able to separate yourself from that madness. Separate yourself with your thinking first, then your actions.

Why in this order? Because your actions are going to be controlled by your thinking. Therefore, if you think something is impossible and cannot be done, then you won’t take the necessary action to complete the task or reach the goal.

However, if you think that not only can it be done, but you can do it in half the time, then you will work harder to make it happen. This is create a situation that you are forced to use your ingenuity and creative forces to make a way when only a wall was in front of you.

I feel you, Joe. I could type forever about this, son…, but I will shut it down and see what the Sammichites have to say about this one.

    Good stuff, Sammich Man!!!

LOL@ calling me the video addict. You know what’s funny? I had already watched the video on Viddler before the post came. That’s how big of a fan I am of The Sammich Man!

Dude, you’ve said most of it already and I actually don’t have much to add because I’m already on the same page. In the past, I’ve actually split from several “friends” who were bringing me down mentally because of their negativity. It’s unfortunate, but some peeps will literally suck the success out of you if you let them.
Once I got my mind right and had (for the most part) other like-minded peeps around me, things started to happen.

There will always be ups and downs, but if you don’t believe in reaching your goals and dreams, then you’ve already made sure that they won’t happen.

I’m not the type to try to “convince” people of anything though. I’ll tell them once and if I’m hit with a wall of “ifs, ands, buts, and negativity” then I’d rather just talk about music and leave life, success, and internet marketing out of the equation. ;)

One point to make though. Even if you NEVER reach your “ultimate goal”, wouldn’t life be that much more exciting “trying to reach it”, rather than giving up on it before you gave it a chance?

    Great post dude.
    Cheers!

It’s just amazing man, I see it working so much, that it’s just awesome. What your mind ponders on or constantly things about, that’s what will happen, that’s what you’ll be.

Dead right Joe !! The biggest problem that is kinda goes like this. I have therefore I am, where instead it really should be I think therefore I am. All of us to a greater or lessor extent are out in the world trying to be “something” which usually equates to an external opinion idea, even an object. If it isnt in you you then it isnt you. Know what I mean? I dont think that the goal of a good and happy life is to be something, it should be to find out and become more of you realy are !!
I think you’re onto something with this conditioning line of thought dude!!
which is the whole tale told in IM as a whole. Buy this or that product and you’ll BE just like the pretty images on the sales page.
Ive been thinking about doing an ego marketing post over the past little while, because I feel that this is what marketing plays into and preys upon.
In so many ways you’re not buying a product but identity enhancers. Its like some kind of voodoo black magic or something. Some how or another when someone buys something just by the act of acquiring it you become like the image portrayed on the cover or sales page, or more like “THEM”. Expensive designer label are probably the best example I can think of, the more expensive it is the more “exclusive” it is. And nobody wants to be humdrum and mundane and or regular. They want to be important and exclusive and so spend their way to achieve this. Its pretty crazy really, or is it me?

    Normal Joe (2055 comments) Reply:

Yeah man…that’s what folks need to realize with anything that’s being sold. Get to the bottom of why you or other people are buying. You not buying that object, you’re buying the result that object gives or moves you towards.

I don’t buy anything I buy online just because I want to learn about it, I don’t find any value in a digital book at all….but I know I want the results I can find in it! I know all the books, tools, and programs can bring me closer to my desired lifestyle my result…FREEDOM.

That’s why I buy anything related to IM, that’s the truth, and real marketers know this, so they don’t focus on the product, the focus on the results! (Sorry, I’ve really been getting into copywriting and salesmanship and the psychology behind why people buy)

You’re right Shane man, you know all about it dude.

Hey there Joe I actually mention you in my last post. I’m not sure if I am being lazy or not but I am seemingly having a hard time with some of these plugins. It is maybe not so much a case of being lazy but knowing exactly how long I should spend mucking about trying to get them to work when I could be doing something more fruitful.

I would like to put a link to to something on my site that is very much on the same vane as that which you are talking about there. Not sure if people will think that I am a lunatic but… it kind of goes a bit surreal and crazy. Stuff about how we all individually create our own universe/ existence.

Oh and while I am here- why is it that my pic no longer appears on peoples site anymore??

Joe – a lot of what you said here really hit home for me. Unfortunately, my job DOES dictate my life right now. But…you’re right about the freedom thing…that’s EXACTLY why I want to be an internet marketer…I am too frustrated with my job dictating my life instead of the other way around. My job should be something that I deal with for a period of time throughout the day, not something that I hope I can get away from for a period of time throughout the day.

This is a great subject. I have to say that a lot of bloggers kind of set their goals way to high and then are disappointed when their blog results are not the same as the goals they set. Making sure to set the right goals and defining what success means to you is the way to go. Once you define what success is, then strive to achieve that goal and thats what will help you be better not only in your business but in life as well. Great post, I liked the video, nice and casual as usual with the JOE!

Success looks different for everyone, as long as you know what it is for you and have the proper mindset to pursue it, it’s all good!

Excellent post, Joe. People find it so much easier to say “I can’t” than “I can”, don’t you think? They’ll find plenty of reasons it’s not achievable when in fact the main reason is their own mindset. Then they’re only too willing to spread their negativity around instead of looking in the mirror as to why their life’s not the way they want it to be. You tell ‘em, Joe! :)

Yeah, that’s what up Salwa. So many find it easy to say they can’t. For most it’s the first thing that comes to mind. We haven’t been trained for thinking outside of the box. Society around most of us is all about the status quo and doing what everyone else is doing. When you start challenging all you’ve grown to know…especially financially, it becomes a battle.

If you’ve never seen 15k a month, or even thought it was possible….then doing what it takes to get there is not only about taking the right actions, but having the mental capacity to overcome the strong barriers around your thought process.

    glad you liked the post!
