It’s that time again for another transform your thinking post. All who don’t want to transform their mind and cultivate it for success are free to stop reading now, catch up with us on another day.
If you’re still here, you must be reading for some mind changing goodness! Today I have something good for you that I know we all deal with from time to time. It has to do with all the various amounts of information we as entrepreneurs consume on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Now, I’m not going to talk about limiting the stuff you try to consume, not in this post, right now I want to talk about how you consume it.
The main thing I want to get across to you today is to FOLLOW THROUGH! Yes, simply put, when you start that book, that course, that report, or that info product….don’t move on until you FINISH! Ohhhhhhh to the naysayers it may seem so simple, but oh how they would be so wrong.
Yeah, I think I’ve created a new term: EADD.. entrepreneurial attention defecit disorder! As business minded folks, we are always thinking and always brainstorming. This is not a bad thing in itself, but when it comes time to focus….it usually get’s the best of us! We are moving along, reading a nice little resource, watching some training, or whatever the case may be and BAM!!!
Something we read, hear, or see in the current resource triggers out entrepreneurial money gland and we immediately start thinking of how we can implement this new idea, which may only remotely be related to the resource we are reading.
I’m not talking about ideas we get from the subject matter, that relates, but those ideas we get that probably weren’t even what the resource was intended for. Or…we go off and start researching this whole other topic, and never come back to finish the initial resource.
Example: You are reading a nice book about adsense, then, somewhere in the book the author mentions ppc, now, instead of finishing the adsense book you go off and start “collecting” information relating to ppc. And so the cycle continues. (I’ll get into information collecting in a future installment)
I understand we get inspired…but don’t abandon what you started! If it’s that good, jot it down in your notes so you can get back to it, you’ll find it hard to consume information on a topic if you never complete the resource! Oh yes, I am speaking from EXPERIENCE! So next time you start a book, course, report, or whatever it is, finish it first before moving on. Trust me, you’ll love it!

Those are some great tips. I think we all need to really transform our thinking. We really need to follow through with everything and just finish the deed.

Amen to dat brother! I seem to have that EADD every once and awhile, but sometimes it gives me some of the best ideas. But then again it helps get me confused and even busier then I already am. Sooo, thanks for the tips, and I’ll try and make sure my EADD is under control.

I normally forget to follow through on things. I know I should just stick with it and just get it done but something always distracts me.
I guess I just need to discipline myself more to complete the task at hand
Great tips there Joe

That’s exactly how I am too man. Ideas come and go, and sometimes, I forget to do some of them! It really pisses me off because I know that it would have been a great opportunity, but I had just let it pass away.
Great post here Joe.

LMAO! I definitely suffer from EADD. That is classic! I like this direction of sharing your road blocks and pep talks with us. Keep it coming!
I have books that I am only a few chapters into. I am always bouncing from idea to idea, but son, my thinking is being transformed. Straight up! Thanks for the tip.
Now please excuse me, I need to RRRUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!

Duuuuude! I got a tip for you that will help you a great deal! Buy ONE book at a time man! lol
Finish that one before you get the next! Make the next book that you’re excited about your “reward” for finishing the first one.
I dunno what you’re gonna do right now though. I guess you could get wifey to hide all those books until you’re finished the Stephen Pierce one! lol
I used to be the exact same way with books. Now, I literally force myself to get one at a time.
It’s crazy man, cause I keep coming here and seeing that we’re focusing on the same kinds of changes. I do have EADD as well, but less in some areas as I’ve worked on “conditioning” for a while. I have strengths and weaknesses though. I definitely skip around with ideas. You don’t want to know how many fresh Wordpress installs I have “live in the blogosphere” dude! The only post on them is “Hello World”. lmao.
I just recently switched up my computer set up to help focus on one task at a time (probably will post on it), because I tend to take too many 5 minute breaks to check irrelevant stuff in the middle of work.
Serously man, I could be in the middle of writing an article on dog biscuits and for some reason, MMA pops in my head and I hit a bookmark to “quickly check fight news”. lol.
Anyway, I’ll be checking in on you next week to make sure that Pierce book is finished!
Cheers!
Jay
PS. I also have another type of EADD (E is for Exercise). I gotta get my ass back to the gym man. lol

Stay focused Jay! I look forward to the post about your computer changes.

Good advice… I also gotta mention, good choice for a “Sponsor” – I’m big on the Honey Bunches of Oats myself (the one with Almonds like you promoting.)
Gotta get 2 boxes everytime cause it seems to be gone in less then 2-3 days after getting the Family Size.

I certainly know that feeling. It’s been a real problem for me lately. There are about 6 different things I’m working on at any one time.
I think the more you work and the more worn out you become, the less focus you have, too. So you get stuck in the habit of trying to do too many things, and never following through on just one thing completely.
I think that’s where just having a break can help. You step back and get a bit of perspective on things, which makes it easier to prioritize.

Welcome to the site Matt! I know how it is man, it happens to all of us. The best thing is when we recognize it, then we can work on fixing it!
Yes, taking breaks can help as well and are very important. You can’t just work, work, work…the whole point of being an entrepreneur is so you can work, play, work, play, play, play, work…. or whatever you feel!

I see soooo many people jumping from one money making system to the next. Their patience level is 1-2 months. If they aren’t making profit in that time, toss it and on to the next.
Did you know that Thomas Edison went through 10,000 filaments before he found one that started the light bulb? He even went to the Amazon jungle for exotic filaments. Perseverance is most of the battle.

Yep you’re right man! Failure is just part of the game, it’s those that take the failure, learn from it…and make it work next time who are successful.
