For those that don’t know, BlogWorldExpo recently took place this past weekend. It’s supposed to be a super big conference for us crazy bloggers, with tons of speakers and networking going on. Â Well, I didn’t get to go this year, actually, I’ve never been.
I plan to start trying to get out to these types of events, as you know how I feel about networking. To me, it’s pricesless. But we did have one of our own in attendance.
BrilliantJeni went to blogworld, and I was able to pull her away from the spa long enough to give us a little rundown of how things went. So, take a lil bit, press play, and listen to the first episode of the  Joe and Jeni show!
And yes, there will be more of these in the future, as she is all over the place, that’s a perk of working online, you’re mobile! Jeni is like the social networking junkie….she keeps me updated on all the variou social networking platforms. You may not know her yet, but trust me, this lady knows what she’s doing, and she has the PASSIVE income to prove it! Thanks for the chat Jeni
…..got bacon?

It is my plan to be at blogworld expo 09 because by then I will be earning loads of money from my blog so I can afford the plane trip over to the conference and the networking will be amazing. Heck by this time next year I am going to be one of the guys with over 10,000 RSS subscribers (and I am not joking it is going to happen just you wait an see)….
People will want to network with me next year at the blog world expo. I might even take my wife so she can get a real taste for the blogging world

My man Joe, coming through with the hot interview and dishing up the dirt. So the blogging events are all about networking, blogs, and drinking. Well, well, well, I just may make it out to some of these events after all.
Man, Jeni is on a 4 month vacation. WTF is that all about!!! I have got to figure out what she is on. I don’t know about 4 months, but if you can do it…why not. That is awesome!
Good stuff, Joe. Looking forward to more conversations, idea exchanges, and information from you in these interviews. Gave us a great idea of what “If this blog could talk” will be like, so thanks.
Best point was when Jeni talked about not getting too big for your blog and focus on helping people….that will lead you to the success that you desire.
I’m with Joe!

of all the blogs to use the new commentluv, you as a prolific commenter has to find a glitch!!
I see that the script is showing the badge and hiding the select box but it’s not able to listen for the comment textarea getting into focus. This is the first time I’ve seen it happen, normally it plays nicely with other jquery scripts, this is probably happening because two scripts are listening to the focus event of the textarea and one is taking priority over commentluv.
I will investigate this and get a solution to you asap.

Ah man, I just posted and wifi blinked so it appears it didn’t go through… let’s try this again-
@Ryan McLean – Hey, I’ll be one of your 10k subscribers AND I’ll be in line to meet you at Blog World 2009! This time, you can be the one to dive into the pool after a dollar, what do you say?
@Freddie -You hit the nail on the head about the humble factor being so important. I know that will be something that stays with me for the rest of my life. Meeting Darren and John Chow and seeing how approachable they were; it’s not an admirable quality they both had, but it really left a positive impression. I mean, come on, John Chow saw me watching him, stopped taking his videos, and walked over to shake my hand and introduce his wife. He didn’t just shimmy on by with his bad-ass self. That’s a cool cat.
PS Joe- I’m not sure an interview with me will suffice in the absence of your daily video. WHERE’S OUR VIDEO!!!!!

@Freddie – Damn the bacon jokes! Damn alllllll the bacon jokes! I’m going to be branded as the bacon jokster after this! D’oh!
@Ben@frogstr – Based on this expo alone, I would suggest to anyone and everyone that they try to attend at least one event a year. The networking is great; you meet fellow bloggers of course, but I also met a number of CEO’s for ad networks who were asking ME for advice, developers who were willing to customize widgets for me, get hot tips about upcoming changes (cough, cough, leak: Bloggers Unite will be doing a major overhaul in the very near future) and generally be exposed to a different side of the blogging world. It really does help to expand your blogosphere horizons.
@Andy Bailey – commentluv never seems to work for me. Works for my commentors though so that’s what’s important. I hear godaddy servers almost always has issues with commentluv which is who I use. Any suggestions?

I think your wp-thread-comment is interferring with commentluv as they both do something with the comment area. There might be a solution but I wont be able to work on it until tomorrow.
sorry about this, I tested with every ajax and javascript include I could and got it working ok with brians threaded comments so I assumed it work with other threaded comment plugins. I’ll let you know as soon as I find out how to fix it so it can work here too.
@BrillianJeni: I never saw any godaddy issues, my guess it is because they don’t allow cURL or external access with php. I have written a new version which takes out the need for cURL and (apart from here!) works well. I’ll be phasing out the older versions one by one because my server gets a call every time a comment gets submitted and that includes the 100 per hour spammers comments which is not ideal. The new one takes care of most of that by only showing with javascript so most bots can’t see it and has a membership site with it to speed up responses and cache feeds for registered users

LMAO@ forgetting to introduce yourself (your name) to John Chow. That’s something I would do while I was cutting him off in the middle of his sentences with my own ramblings. The difference is, you can get away with it, cause you’re brilliant. I’d have to wait until the following year to try and make up for it.

@joe: I have downloaded thread comments, comment remix and other ajax’y plugins to try and replicate the problem you are having here but I can’t!!
I have updated the plugin to try and do the fetch of post if there is a url field populated at display time (if you use cookies or it is autofilled by the users browser) and added another event to a blur of the url field as well as a focus event on the text area.
because I can’t replicate the problem you are having here, I can’t say with certainty that it will fix the problem but I’m pretty sure that it might (maybe) possibly
the update should appear on your dashboard as a plugin needing updating soon. Please let me know if you get an issues with it

hahaha, I don’t believe it!! I just had a flash of inspiration and checked your source, it seems you have two things with the id = comment
just before your form code in your theme is a H3 with id=”comment” in it, that’s why it wont trigger!! there can only be one object with an ID called comment.
if you change the html in your comments.php file to use a different ID value for the H3 tag (<h3 id=”comment”>Leave a Replay</h3>) or you can change your commentluv settings page to use the name value for the comment text area instead (set to Name in the pull down box for the comment text area)

Hey Normal Joe,
I just listened to your BlogWorld Expo 2008 podcast interview with BriJeni. Nice job Joe!
I was ‘the video guy’ at BlogWorld Expo 2008.
This is how it happened. I Twittered to find a pass to BlogWorld Expo, and nothing, nothing, nothing! Then I saw Dave_BlogWorld and tweeted him. He asked me what I could offer. (I did not know they were not planning any formal videography at the event, and I knew who would be there…)
I offered my videography services for the whole three days, no charge so he agreed and gave me an all access pass to the event!
Of course I was working the whole time, up at 5;00 am, at the LVCC by 7:00 to slam a triple-shot grande latte and a bagel, before the first session to session with my hand-truck packed with video gear, and during the Saturday Super Panel, with John Chow, Shoemoney, Darren Rowse, Zac Johnson, I won a seat at the Market Leverage dinner at Envy steakhouse!
I posted some some photos of the Market Leverage dinner with John Chow and the other attendees, and my humble newbie blogger self of three months here:
http://donotreadthisblogunless.blogspot.com/
One photo captures the group after dinner, I’m the guy between Zac Johnson and Darren Rowse in the dark black shirt with my stomach full of Kobe beef, salad, lobster macaroni ( is that legal? ) and chocolate mousse.
The other photo is myself with John Chow, and the ‘Market Leverage Cashinator’ cash competition that Tyler Cruz won. There was a $100.00 bill on top, and the rest were $1.00!
Brilliant Jeni did a fine job of covering the event, I enjoyed your interview with her from BlogWorld Expo. Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and Timothy Ferris were so very accessible. All of the panelists took time to speak with me after the speeches, and the overall atmosphere was very interactive.
Bloggers giving back to bloggers.! Now another great thing happenned, I received an Unlimited Platinum pass to Affiliate Summit in January 2009. Talk about the right place at the right time!
Back home, writing my seven blogs and building my web empire.
Respectfully, Nicholas – future Super Affiliate and nice guy to bloggers

Team-building and communication-providing events such as BlogWorld Expo provide people that would normally talk to one another through a single method with another way to send their messages. Face-to-face interaction has value which can be only be acquired by performing it.
